These positions apply to all of the Prides.
Superior Ranks - These are ranks that are not given by the leader (with the exception of the Den Mother). Some may be challenged for.
Leader - Of course, the Pride leader. They are in charge of everything from apprenticing cubs to organizing the Scout patrols. They are not always the nicest of leaders, but are just and fair when it comes to Pride governing and leadership. They usually males, but an occasional female will find herself worthy of leadership. Leaders cannot be challenged for their position, and they may mate with whomever they wish.
Trainer - The Trainer is another very important member of the Pride. This lion is one of the strongest in the Pride, and takes care of all of the Apprentices. The Trainer must be a male, and must have been in many battles to take the strenuous task of training all of the Apprentices. They must be smart, quick, and eager. They can sire cubs. This position can be challenged for, meaning that another lion can come forth and challenge for this rank.
Shaman - The Shaman is the medicine lion, and the healer of the Pride. They are wise in the ways of the stars and can understand prophetic messages from the deceased. They use herbs and berries to heal and treat the sick and injured. The Shaman is chosen by the Pride of Moonlit Skies in a dream, at a young age. They are given the knowledge of herbs and prophecies in a series of dreams. They can mother/sire cubs, but only if someone else approaches them first. This rank cannot be challenged for. You can decipher a Shaman from the rest of the Pride, because Shamans have a symbol in the middle of their forehead, depending on how skilled they are in their work.
SYMBOLS
Den Mother - A young adult lioness that takes care of the cubs in the Pride. They feed, clean, and play with the cubs while their biological mothers are busy, and she also teaches them the basics of learning to hunt and fight, until they are old enough for the Trainer to take over. A Den Mother is chosen by the leader, just before she reaches Apprentice age. The to-be Den Mother, called a Tyro, spends her entire childhood with the current Den Mother, training and learning to be a Den Mother herself when she grows up. A Den Mother is not a rank that can be challenged for, unless the current Den Mother wishes to possibly quit. They may not have cubs of their own.
----
Secondary Ranks - These are ranks that are given by both the Leader and the Trainer. They survey the new litter of cubs for a while each day, and, can tell, by how the cubs act, which rank they will grow up to be. They also receive behavioral reports from the Den Mother and her Tyro, which also help to judge how the cub is coming along. These ranks are permanent.
Scouts - Scouts are usually the leanest and most limber of the Pride. They are the lions that patrol the area and surrounding borders. They should be extremely fast runners and fliers, and have keen eyesight in order to spot danger. It is their job to patrol the area and make sure the Leader knows what is going on with the other Prides. Scouts can mate with other scouts, nobody else. (Except for the leader, if he/she wishes.)
Guardians - Buff and resilient, Guardians have a very important job. A Guardian stays mainly in the den-site, keeping watch for any intruders, such as opposing Prides or any kind of other predators. They are some of the strongest lions in the pride, and usually the largest. They are also usually the best fighters. They can mate with other Guardians, as well as the Leader on occasion. (Same scenario as Scouts.)
Hunters - Hunt for the Pride. Have the job of keeping the food coming, and are very fast and lean. They are experts in hunting and chasing down prey, and must have a huge amount of stamina in order to keep running. They are lions that have smaller, sleeker wings, so they can fly quickly. They can mate with other Hunters, as well as the Leader on occasion. (Same scenario as Guardians and Scouts.)
Apprentices - Apprentices are Scouts, Guardians, and Hunters in training. They are trained by the Trainer, obviously, until they are 10 moons of age and are made into their required positions. They are Apprenticed at 5 moons.
Cubs - Baby winged lions. Their wings have not sprouted yet, and they won't sprout until about 2 moons of age.
